I like to use my outdoor BBQ grill to cook almost everything, especially in summer. Avoid heat and cooking odors, like fish, bacon inside the house.
I recently roasted 2 lbs walnut. It turned out to be very good. It was super simple to do. Total cooking time is 45 minutes.
The BTU (heat measurement) and cooking environment for each grill is different. Start with low heat, and watch it more often.
Some people may say it is a lot easier just go to the super market to buy a bag of shelled nuts. My reply is that because you made an effort to work on them. It tastes much better. Most of all, you won't eat as much. If you don't believe me, try it ^_^
Here is what I did.
Put walnuts on a tray
Put a rack side the grill. pre-heat the Grill to 220F degree. If you don't have a heat gauge on the grill, turn all the burners to the lowest positions.
If you don't have a rack, use some bricks.
My grill has 4 burners. It is better to use lower heat than high heat. It may cook longer, but it won't burn the walnuts.
Turn and shake the tray gently to make sure walnuts turn every 15 minutes
After 45 minutes (on my grill) turn the heat off and let them sit will 15 minutes.
Done!
Delicious!
I'm a big outdoor cooker myself. Nice post!
