Ingredients

  • 2 medium onions
  • 250g of flour
  • About 300ml of beer
  • A teaspoon of sweet pepper
  • 1 tablespoon of chemical yeast, Royal type
  • bread crumbs
  • Salt
  • Olive oil

Preparation

1.- Peel the onion and remove the first layer, which is a bit hard. We cut it into thin slices, from bottom to top of the onion and 1cm thick, so that they are in the shape of a ring.

2.- After, we separate with the fingers the different layers of the onion to get the rings.

3 . - put the rings in cold water for about 30 minutes. We discard those parts that have not kept their round shape or that are too small to make onion rings with them (In the kitchen, we never throw anything in. These rest are used for another elaboration).

4.- In a large bowl mix the flour, a spoonful of chemical yeast, the cold beer or another carbonated drink, such as soda or siphon, a teaspoon of salt, another of paprika and mix everything well with a fork until there is a kind of cream, without lumps. It has to be with a certain thickness but rather liquid.

5.- Drain the onion rings from the water, add a pinch of salt and put them in the mixture, making sure they are well impregnated with it. We now take our onion rings, remove the excess dough and pass them through bread crumbs. We reserve on a plate and continue making more onion rings, until we're done with everyone.

6.- Fry the onion rings over a high heat in abundant olive oil. After about 30 seconds, remove them, letting them rest on a rack to drain the excess oil without softening. That way they'll be crispy. And you already have your homemade dish, typical of a fast food restaurant!
