Chawanmushi or Egg Custards - Simple but absolutely divine! #food

in cooking •  7 years ago

Today, I'd like to try out something I've never done before - cook a dish I've always eaten in Japanese restaurants and actually even overlooked it like a food snob. That is the simple but when executed well, chawanmushi or savoury egg custard.

Below is a picture of chawanmushi I had eaten in Japan - I have to say I was blown away!

As someone who doesn't cook often, I could tell that they did not just simply use water to steam and use cheap cuts of meat, seafood and dried mushrooms. Everything in the chawanmushi was exclusive - the best mushrooms I had, the freshest prawns, tender meats and the seafood broth used was also really really good!

My own personal challenge today is to try and follow the recipe below. I will be doing my best to recreate the best chawanmushi I have ever eaten in my kitchen - haha.

These are the ingredients I have taken from a Japanese culture resource centre:

Step by step guide on what to do:

Gosh I know I will mess this up X_X

All the best to my fellow foodies and friends on #steemit!

I wish you happy eating and good day ahead!

Cheers!
