It may be too high-specific to use.

Intel 's latest processor " Core i9 X-series " was announced at the International Computer Trade Show C O M P U T E X  in Taipei. According to Ars Technica, etc. Among them, the top processor " i9-7980 XE " of 2,000 dollars is wonderful that you want to think about what you use for home use, 18 cores / 36 threads We boast of specs.

The i7 of the subordinate processor did not have any problem even when playing a game with high load. Unless it is a video production professional, it is a super high-end processor that surely carries out.

Nonetheless, it is a geek that always admires the strongest spec that you do not need and always wants the latest technology even if you know that it will become standard after several years. Intel's 10 core processor "i7 Extreme Edition" that came out last year in 2016, AMD's 16-core 32-thread processor "Ryzen Threadripper" released by AMD two weeks ago, including the super spec i9 Extreme -series can not be ignored. Let's take a closer look.

The lowest end of "Core i9 X-series" newly announced this time is "Kaby Lake - X" processor, 4.2 GHz Kaby Lake - X i5 and i7 - 7740 X (4 cores / 8 threads, ~ 4.5 GHz, $ 340). These are the same processors as the conventional " Kaby Lake ". There is no problem with this as far as normal use is concerned.

The top one is i7 of "Skylake-X" processor, and there are the following two lineups.

i7-7800X (6 cores / 12 threads, ~ 4.0 GHz, $ 390)

i7-7820X (8 cores / 16 threads, turbo boost 3.0, ~ 4.5 GHz, $ 600)

And the top lineup i9 is as follows. It is an outstanding core number and price.

i9-7940X (10 cores / 20 threads, turbo boost 3.0, ~ 4.5 GHz, $ 1,000)

i9-7920X (12 cores / 24 threads, $ 1,200)

i9-7940X (14 cores / 28 threads, $ 1,400 )

i9-7460X (16 cores / 32 threads, $ 1,700)

i9-7980 XE (18 cores / 36 threads, $ 2,000)

Specifications which are announced at COMPUTEX at the present stage are as shown in the table below.

According to Intel, the latest processor will start shipping in a few weeks. More information will be clarified so far. Although it seems to be repeated many times, I think that it is unnecessary except for disgusting people if nothing is the best.

I wonder why they skipped the core i8?

thanks for your interesting comment @stpro1 also Intel skipped core i4 and i6 too!

I think they only use odd numbers to name their processors. i3, i5, i7, and now i9 have odd numbers and no even numbers. Conspiracy theory?

NO Conspiracy theory - I think simply to avoid confusion with number of cores.

Ah, that makes sense!
