The last two weeks have been a real adventure, a beautiful reminder about true human values and a hair raising journey of unexpected calibre. Those 14 days have been tough, they have been harsh and at times we hit rock-bottom not knowing where to go and what to do next considering the far-out situation we eventually found ourselves in.
So I am thrilled to say I am back, everything is fine and my woman and I have just successfully completed a two week quarantine proving that we neither have the Corona Virus in us nor that we are in any way able to "infect" the local population. We never had any doubt about that, but man does it feel good to be able to move about freely again and follow our hearts once more.
Man, what a two weeks it has been! So let me make this story long and appropriately dense, with a fitting introduction how this all came to be, starting at the very end with a picture we just took a few minutes ago, the warrior smiles under our masks with the two who made it through two weeks of living the oddest life imaginable. What a crazy life <3
A tough prelude for an ever tougher test
It wasn't too long ago when my woman and I decided to leave Germany behind, to travel South in Europe to discover a better place to live and build a future, and to simply escape winter's grasp on Northern Europe that makes living up there quite depressing half the year when it's gray and wet outside. We were also tired of the mindset and the depression-ridden way of life in Germany, for good reasons.
As I have written a lot on this blog in my diary posts we had made it all the way from Northern Germany, to Southern Germany, crossed Austria in late February from West to East in the middle of winter, traveled onwards South to Slovenia, rested for a week, crossed over to Croatia and traversed it in a little less than a week bringing us to the gates of Montenegro.
Though Montenegro had always seemed like an attractive "destination" we only knew in Austria that Montenegro was where we definitely wanted to go and stay for a while. 6 Weeks traveling had made their mark on us and we have become tired of the hassle it brings every day traveling in winter temperatures in a non-complete camper van. The car had still not been caught up with our demands - its interior configuration is pretty much as messy as when we left on February 1st but all our focus had been on making it to warmer climates before we would take our time to enjoy life to the fullest. We did make it work but man, we really wanted to spend a week just arriving somewhere and bringing the van interior up a notch to our requirements and experience.
Corona-mania catching up with us
So we opted for crossing the rest of Croatia rather quickly as Montenegro was so near already, but then the Corona avalanche had caught up with us: We read that Montenegro had implemented a 14 day quarantine for visitors coming from so-called "affected countries" - like Germany. We were bummed! Not only didn't we know whether they would let us in now - we didn't know whether we actually wanted in under these circumstances. What exactly does quarantine mean, right?
I mean we all have seen way too many hollywood movies where quarantines are depicted (especially in connection with so-called "contagious diseases") and I wasn't quite sure whether our wish to visit and travel Montenegro was worth living in a fenced-off hospital or prison camp for two weeks under constant surveillance. Especially because I have a woman with me who I love and everything we own is in this van of ours, including our hopes, dreams and livelihood. Would we even be able to make it through this if we got separated and brought to some weird hospital like prison?
How bad do we really want to go to Montenegro?
We decided in Southern Croatia not to quit now and at least try, we guessed we could always say no at the border if the quarantine demands were too outlandish for our tastes. We had come so far, and had worked through so many challenges, we wanted to check out our options and to weigh our choice accordingly.
And so we went to the Croatia-Montenegro border on March the 15th mere hours before the day ended. And boy oh boy, I have not had such a great adventure in recent years! No exaggeration.
Wrote diary through the entire 2 weeks that followed, which will be posted here in the next days now that I have a way to go online again, it's been two weeks offline and wow do I have some catching up to do. But before I write any more you'll excuse me, I have some cheese to eat, a beer to enjoy, cigarettes to smoke and worldly things to catch up with now that we are no longer bound by contract to remain in our van within the city boundaries but can at least travel freely in the municipality. More on that later though.
Super Glad to say: I am BACK!
And There will be hair-raising stories about my time in Corona-Quarantine here coming soon. This is the country we are "trapped" in now, Montenegro at the Adriatic Sea - perfect!
Wow just wow!
Go do this ( although it's three days later now.
And please share your C-stories on HIVE via Peakd.com or Hive.blog as that is where most former Steemians went and where most of your readers will hang out.
Glad to hear the two of you are save.
You too look cute, even with mouth caps,
A big hug,
Vincent
