Just 30 seconds of swirling has proven effective against similar viruses, a review found.

Ingredients in common mouthwashes damaged the bugs’ outer shell - making them harmless.

Now experts have called for urgent research into the potential benefits of using the rinse to combat Covid-19.

They hope to establish if popular brands can inactivate the virus in the throat, where it is thought to multiply.

Study leader Prof Valerie O’Donnell, from Cardiff University, said: “Safe use of mouthwash - as in gargling - has so far not been considered by public health bodies in the UK.

“Already published research on other enveloped viruses, including coronaviruses, directly support the idea that oral rinsing should be considered as a potential way to reduce transmission of SARS-CoV-2.

    I wouldn't go to The Sun for any medical advice, but I see others are saying this may be beneficial, pending studies. Good dental hygiene is generally a good thing, but I've not used mouthwash in a while.

      Hi steevc.Thank you. I'm not a Sun fan either, but I got the alert from the Hydrogen Peroxide 'One Minute Cure' book people.
      I've used Hydrogen Peroxide as a mouth rinse after teeth cleaning for years - I'm gargling as well now of course - But I didn't know there was a food grade, or connect it with oxygen until I was sent the book.

      I've looked at opening an Hive account a couple of time,but my concentration span wearies before I can complete.I notice I have Hive though in my Bittrex account.

        If you have your Steem posting key you can just log in with that and the same name, but I recommend the Hive keychain to log into peakd. It should basically be the same as logging into Steemit/Steempeak.

          My mouthwash has Hydrogen Peroxide in it, and I use it every day. Thanks for the info about Peroxide and Covid, I do think it can help and it can't hurt!

          On Hive, you don't have to open an account because you already have one. Many people from here are also there. And Hive is worth twice as much as Steem these days. Peakd is the front end a lot of people use. Your Hive account is at https://peakd.com/@ijavee and you'll see all your Steem posts there because Hive is just a fork of Steem, each going their own way after March 20th. On that day, we all got 1 Hive for each Steem we had, including those on Bittrex. You have a few Hive on the Hive chain too, and they are shown at https://peakd.com/@ijavee/wallet.

          If you do decide to Login there, you will be shown 4 ways to do it. Peaklock and Hivesigner are the easiest, in my opinion. I use Peaklock. They ask for your Hive account (ijavee) and your Posting Key, then a 5 digit Pin Code to use once a week since they only let you stay signed in for a week before you have to enter the Pin Code again.

          In any case, I'm at both places, so I'll be seeing you here, and maybe there if you decide to post there too!
