... It's what you don't do, that gets noticed

It has been an interesting year.

Realising that I don't "own" the company I work for was quite a shock.
I always thought that having adapted to the corporate world's schizophrenia & psychopathic immorality, that I had suffered to become a moulded all round monk.

As part of this realisation, came the realisation that I needed to change.
It has been tough, and easy, all rolled in.

This post us about not doing.
When I feel that I have done what I am paid to do, I stop doing, and focus on the me part.

Unfortunately, not doing, means that someone doesn't get what they want.
This causes politics.

I'm not good at politics, so I used to brace myself for an impact, from any backlash.
Now, I just shrug.

It seems that a more powerful person than I was upset that I didn't reply to his email query.
He has higher up connections.

So, my boss gave me constructive feedback.
Apparently, my not responding to emails comes across as "I don't care".
I said, "My focus is on inputting in day-to-day and that consumed all my time."

He said, "You could have at least replied to his email that you didn't have time."

Well, I see where he is coming from, but I chose not to .

And that's the difference of me this year.

I chose not to reply to the email.
Even if I did have time, I wouldn't have.
It's not my company and then person sending me the query was not my connected to me in the hierachy.
The information he wanted was unobtainable due to key people on annual leave & the company's systems are inadequate for the reports required.
Also, the information bled into another manager's responsibility and I wanted them to respond. In the past, I would have replied.

Not my company.
Not my job.
Not my responsibility.

But it does bug me that it comes across as though I failed a task.
But it is also the reason why I need to change my style to develop a non corporate me.

Ah, change is not always smooth.received_10216339301694052.jpeg
