Today I share the coolest moment I have had in my time cosplaying at Comic Cons in Texas. In 2014 my wife and I traveled to Dallas to attend the annual Dallas Comic Con event there. It was my FIRST time ever cosplaying at a Comic Con (I had cosplayed only once before at Anime Matsuri in Houston, TX). I wore my Zoidberg costume from Futurama that my wife made and she wore her female Kratos costume from the God of War video game. My wife and I decided that we wanted to get a chance to meet the cast from Star Trek: The Next Generation who happened to be attending the event as guest speakers. We made our way to the area where the TNG cast was located and noticed that autographs and pictures were no less than $40, so we each decided we would get one autograph from the crew; I would get my autograph from Levar Burton (aka Geordi Laforge) and she would get hers from Michael Dorn (aka Worf). Mr. Dorn was understandably short with us (it was late afternoon on a Sunday after being at that con all weekend answering Star trek questions, who wouldn't be tired by then?) and Mr. Burton was ridiculously nice and hilarious. As we were leaving, we found out it cost nothing to at least talk to these people so we decided to talk to Brent Spiner (aka Data) before leaving the area.
Mr. Spiner saw my costume and his jaw just dropped for a second. He finished his conversation with the fan he was talking to and motioned me to come forward. He immediately told me how much he loved my costume and how original it was. He told me he HAD to take my picture. Being a smartass, I said "Well if you get my picture then I need to get one with you!" Thankful that I wasn't shy that day as he totally agreed to the exchange of pics! Brent Spiner was awesome and he made my entire year by coming out from behind his desk to get a picture with me!
Who else has an awesome story to share about their cosplay? I'd love to hear about how others, celebrities or not, reacted to your cosplays!
