There are some very good reasons why the people in my real life social network tend to be a lot less likely to come in contact with these sorts of things and while this is meant in jest, I think there is some truth to it as well. While it is extremely unlikely that anyone is going to get Corvid-19 it is even less likely for rednecks and here is why.
This is not me or anyone I know, it is from a TV show
The main reason why rednecks are far less likely to catch Corvid or any other virus is because of one very major part of the equation: We tend to live outside of urban areas and live our lives with very few crowded areas involved in it. I don't think that you can truly consider yourself to be a redneck if you live in a metropolitan area. Hell, even the people who live directly inside nearby Greenville, North Carolina have a tough claim to the redneck life, and that city only has a population of a bit over 90,000, nearly half of which are college students.
This next point is pure guesswork on my part. I am educated, but not in medicine. However, I do believe there is something to the notion that if you are exposed to more natural or even unsanitary environments where not everything you touch has to be sterile and safe, that your body builds up a better immune system. Rednecks grow up playing in the mud and this carries on into our adult lives. Our favorite things to do involve camping, hunting, fishing, you know? The great outdoors and this is a dirty environment. Therefore, I would venture to guess that our immune systems are more readily capable of dealing with a virus than the average person who's closest brush with nature comes as the hands a centrally located municipal park.
This next one kind of depends on my first two end up having any bearing whatsoever in reality: We are less likely to catch some sort of urban-sprawl disease because of the fact that rednecks have a tendency to hang out with other rednecks primarily. It's not that we don't want anything to do with city folks, it's just that we, like any other segment of society tend to enjoy hanging out with like minded individuals.
I realize that this virus targets the elderly and those with compromised immune systems primarily and here is one last reason why it is unlikely to hit even the elderly in the redneck population: We tend to not put our grandparents / parents / etc into homes. I don't have any sort of actual stat to back this up, I just know that of all my pals, none of them have a relative in a group home as we tend to take on the burden of looking after crazy "pawpaw" on ourselves. That's just the way we are.
So while the rest of the world is going bananas about this virus and stockpiling hand soap and what not, we've actually been stock-piling supplies our entire lives. Rednecks are some of the most prepared individuals you will ever meet for stuff like this. So when the pandemic comes full swing, which I don't believe is actually going to happen, the rednecks will likely be one of the groups that were the least affected, or even not affected at all. Well, until the Elk's Lodge has difficulty obtaining more Coors Light that is.
