Amid the worldwide spread of covid-19 New Zealand has started putting in strict guidelines to slow its spread. First it was limiting social gatherings, then we closed the borders and now we are going into lockdown!
With only a tick over 100 cases in New Zealand these measures are extreme. However, there is limited evidence of community spread and this could stop covid-19 before it becomes a massive problem like it has in places like Italy and Spain.
So what does being in lockdown look like? For us this means only essential businesses will stay open - supermarkets, pharmacies and a few others. The rest of us will be stuck at home for a month.
The media asked us all not to panic buy, but it seems people arent listening! Things are going out of stock left, right and centre - bread, flour, tinned goods and toilet paper to name a few.
All in all although these measures are extreme but needed. The alternative is 1000s of people dying unnecessarily.
How is it in your country?
