Status quo bias and cost of covid avoidance.

I think status quo bias is now causing some people to underestimate the cost of ongoing COVID-avoidance.

If, after 18 months, social distancing now feels like an entirely natural status quo, you won't feel it requires an extreme justification. You might even feel the burden of proof has switched and you require an extreme justification to return to normal.

So it's a useful exercise to imagine what you would have thought of this all back in January 2020.

Some people will just find masks/distancing really cheap, and that’s fine. It means you probably ‘should’ have been doing it every flu season even before COVID but hey, having social acceptance of what you’re doing matters.

At the other end though, distancing killed my primary hobby (Magic: The Gathering tournaments) stone dead, not to mention drastically reducing how much exercise I do in practice. Even ignoring the enjoyment factor, the (Mental) health implications go both ways!

The right answers will vary vastly depending on age, health, living situation, etc. Just make you are asking the right questions.
