HV.1 is still the most prevalent variant in the US, but JN.1 is close behind. JN.1 is a descendant of BA.2.86 with only one additional mutation in the spike protein. Early research suggests the new coronavirus vaccines will increase protection against JN.1. JN.1 may have a growth advantage, so it will probably become the dominant variant in the coming weeks.
