According to the CDC, 1 million excess deaths in the US this pandemic.

Or in other words over 2,000 Richard Epsteins.

Arizona had over 70% more excess deaths per capita than California.

South Dakota had over 40% more excess deaths per capita than Minnesota.

West Virginia had over 75% more excess deaths per capita than Maryland.

Idaho had 90% more excess deaths per capita than Washington.

Hawaii had the least excess deaths per capita.

Mississippi had the most excess deaths per capita.

Meanwhile..

New Zealand with 96% of its eligible population with at least one dose, 94% with two doses and 71% with booster doses.

Why yes that is a negative excess death rate this pandemic.

I think total days under restrictions were actually much fewer than the US domestically. For a significant stretch New Zealand barely had any restrictions present as their quarantine controls had kept transmission down.
