This seems like decent timing, about midway down the back side of the wave.

The proposal was to remove them in a week, that takes us to the end of the green arrow. But symptoms and testing have a 5+day lead time, taking us to the end of the gray arrow.

That's about the same as the pre-Omicron base rate. NHS will be largely back to normal. For the immune compromised who haven't had Omicron yet, it may be better to get it while the boosters are fresh, especially if shot 4 isn't very effective as suggested by Israel's data.

In any case, the levels will be pretty low and still falling by the time this move impacts anything. With Paxlovid coming online, I think the timing is about perfect.

Good to see ONS random sampling confirming the peaks and falls are real though. I was concerned how much reduced usage of PCR testing and more reliance on LTFs (often unregistered) was interfering in the daily figures.
