Bring Back Live Sports TV Again

#Covid19 pandemic has undoubtedly affected the lives of many people all around the world. This novel coronavirus has proven to be the "Great Equaliser" of people in all aspects - status, race, abilities, and health. Even when you're in good health, you can be a carrier of the disease and your immune system can be eventually compromised if you're unlucky as it takes days before you start showing the symptoms of the virus.

Sports athletes are not exempted. And I'm not just talking about their health, per se. Their matches and tournaments have been cancelled or postponed for the time being. Their careers are on hold and the contracts of some of the players have been modified or not even renewed because the clubs and organisations responsible for paying their salaries are also experiencing the financial impacts of the pandemic. They earn their profit from ticket sales, viewership, sponsors and commercials on TV. But everything is on standby at the moment, and worse, may take a while before things will pick up again because we'll never know when this crisis is going to die down. Or will it ever end? We are also being warned by the news that there may be a second wave of #Covid19 infections. But I hope and pray that we won't come to that point. This too shall pass.

Missing All the Fun of Live Sports TV

My husband and I are wondering when we will be able to watch live sports again (I know, it's the least of our problem). But we love watching sports TV, and it's the only reason why we even subscribed to Foxtel (a cable TV) so that we could watch all of the live games and matches of different sports that we follow, such as tennis, darts, Australian Football, UFC, boxing, and cricket.

We were going to cancel our subscription sometime in March since there was nothing to watch anymore. They're all replays. And who wants to watch replays? You know who's going to win in a match so there's no thrill in watching that at all. Then I received an SMS message from Foxtel saying that they would add free movies and TV series to our subscription for free until the end of June to "keep us entertained and help us during our self-isolation at home."

So, I guess, we're not going to cancel our subscription then. We try to justify this decision that we're not wasting our money by saying we don't have any "vice or addiction" at all, like smoking, drinking, gambling, or even shopping, so it's okay to keep our Foxtel TV for our own entertainment and sanity by being stuck at home all day long.

But we really do love our sports. I kind of missed it already. My husband and I love cricket, and there should be a test match around this time, and if I'm not mistaken, it's Australia vs India, but of course, that's cancelled. Back when the social distancing was not strictly implemented among the players, which means, that they could still play their games and matches, but it's just that there would be no live audience allowed into the stadium, it was a different atmosphere. And it was actually not fun to watch at all. It's more entertaining to watch the match on TV when you can see the cheering and different reactions from the fanatics. India's Cricket Captain Virat Kohli even said, "The magic of live audience will be missed."
