coyotes stealing pets in.portland oregon

Wow. News has a pet being snatched by coyotes. And I'm in favor for nature until it threatens my puppy.

And yeah I'm very worried about my puppy being attacked. As we do go to the river and the past couple nights we have heard the coyotes in the area. And let's say they were close and multiple packs..

Missing pets? Most likely not and it happened again and again. Oh yeah they are more than capable of getting me down and to be able to gang up and kill a human. That's pretty big.

Better start carrying a pistol for protection! Best of luck! :)

One of the miniature dachshunds I rescued and placed in a forever home was attacked but they had wanted two, and the second one attacked, and ran the coyote off. Saved her sister, but the vet bill was steep.

Here it is open season on coyotes that present a danger to pets or livestock. Go shoot them before they get your buddies!

Reservation has open shoot policy and that's the only thing that keeps kids and people safe. They know close to houses is dangerous.

Then get a flat shooting monster to surprise them! A 6.5mm Swedish Mauser is cheap, and has the range you need!

Honestly my family became believers in the AR 15 to keep coyotes in check but they still are wary and stay about 4-500 yards out. Usually...

I took a deer with a Swedish Mauser at over 450 yards, and the hit was only 3 inches from the point of aim. You could get a Coyote at 700 yards, 800 if you are a steady hand. The wounded rabbit recordings drive them crazy.

My Brother in Law got one at night with a 45 ACP, because he came looking for the wounded rabbit. :)

Oh my 556 goes out to 800. The 308 does well over a thousand. Hit static targets out to 1760 yards. But semiautomatic I can walk rounds into anything.

I'm hell on coyotes. Just wait til I get thermal scopes!

And the 45 act ive hit targets out to 100 yards. Got out to 350 before with it.

Go with the 308, the 556 is too light to really do much.

I hunt with a 300 Win Mag with a 24 power scope, so distance and knock down is not a problem. But I still take out the Swedish from time to time, just for fun, Very under rated firearm, that is ballistically impressive. But, anything you can hit them with, is good.

I find a 45 drops 5 feet at 200 yards

556 has light kick so 3 rounds and 2 are walked for the 3rd punch. I can dump 2-3 coyotes provided there is open range. Family running Bolt guns learned quick to up their game and pick up semiautomatic ar or aks.

But I'm doing about .5moa with 556 and reach out to 800 or so?

The 308 is running about .66 moa.

Both tuned loads but will hold 1-2 moa with factory ammo and a steady hand.

Closer I am the more assured I am of hits. 500 yards or less and no worries at all.

Which family ranch and horses are needing protection. 308 is fun but Spendy. I have 6-24 power scope for precision work. Close in irons or Reddots.

And always used Kentucky windage with the 45. Different weights fly different. 230 grain rounds drop quick and 185s sail nice. Want to push the 300-350 shots with 185s and see what happens.

Your dog is twice the size of a coyote. They only go after smaller prey. That's a lot of missing cats. I saw one the other day just walk up onto someones porch while I was at a red light.
I don't think there is anything to worry about unless you have small animals or unattended toddlers. I don't think they are going to pack up on an adult human.

That's complete bullshit. There is many examples of them pulling down fit and active adults. As a pack animal and running 5-20 deep? Yeah them ripping apart my dog is a very real possibility.

Living on the reservation I'd watch packs hunting before dark. Had over 30 packs on that section of reservation. Which are breeding with feral dogs and contributing to the death of an Elder.

I've seen them take on multiple dogs and only scared off by the human owners using firearms.

On the subject? I was attacked and forced up into a tree and spent some quality time with coyotes as a full grown man. So not at all the case.

That statement of you think? I know for a fact I was nearly ripped apart. Even a small pack can get you on the ground with a single bite on your Achilles tendon. At that point it's just a matter of fact that they will feast upon your sweet flesh.

And yes in the area there is a huge issue with missing pets. And main cause of the problem is coyotes as their number has increased and there isn't any population control.

And ever walked your dog and have to stand off coyotes? I have. Let's just say I was more worried about dieing than thinking my size had anything to do with the fight.

Not thinking during a critical time? Might end you dead.

This weekend there were multiple packs of coyotes in the city park I was at. As well as fresh prints when I came back from the store.

Respect the Trickster. He is the Coyote for a reason. He will use his female to lead off a dog and then the pack will feed on your pet.

Cats? Even a tree won't stop them. They will wait in shifts while dehydration sets in. The cat will get down and become the snack. If the cat is even able to get to protection. Too many cats go missing here in the area and local vets know about the infection risks and disease they carry.

I'm not saying they aren't sneaky bastards....
Statistics say...
The chances of being bitten by your own dog is much more likely than you being attacked by a pack of coyotes.

Stay safe out there.
