556 has light kick so 3 rounds and 2 are walked for the 3rd punch. I can dump 2-3 coyotes provided there is open range. Family running Bolt guns learned quick to up their game and pick up semiautomatic ar or aks.
But I'm doing about .5moa with 556 and reach out to 800 or so?
The 308 is running about .66 moa.
Both tuned loads but will hold 1-2 moa with factory ammo and a steady hand.
Closer I am the more assured I am of hits. 500 yards or less and no worries at all.
Which family ranch and horses are needing protection. 308 is fun but Spendy. I have 6-24 power scope for precision work. Close in irons or Reddots.
And always used Kentucky windage with the 45. Different weights fly different. 230 grain rounds drop quick and 185s sail nice. Want to push the 300-350 shots with 185s and see what happens.
My 308 is not scoped, since it has military peep sites (M14) and I take that when I go feral hog hunting. I may be taking that to Yellowstone, to run bear security for the Nat Geographic study on wolves.
:)
How do you deal with the 556 tumbling when it goes subsonic?

Honestly 556 goes subsonic at about 1000 yards. And 5.54 Russian tumbles with the wrong twist. And both rounds destabilize quickly.
It's easier to run the AR10 platform and about 5 lbs difference between them.
Don't get me wrong I love the M1a series. But the last one had the barrel and chamber rust up.
Switched to the gas piston Ruger version and wow!

Never had a problem with the 308, but I clean them all, and that is half the battle there. The 300 blackout looks like a pistol round, but the Creedmore looks promising in the AR platform. I wonder if the 308 is too hot for long term use in the AR platform

It ran way cooler in my opinion. And huge weight savings. And the gas piston? Makes it run way cooler than the direct gas impingement. Which also makes cleaning a breeze.
Then uppers. That's the issue. With both the ar15 and the 10 you can run a new upper that has dedicated optics and switch out calibers.
Careful a few guys exchange the wrong ammo and oops.
But now with a 2 pin system you rock the same nice trigger and shoot 17hmr,22lr, pistol rounds, 556, 300 bo, 450 bushmaster, 50 Beowulf.
The 10? 243, 7mm-08, 308, and 338-08 and I do think 6.5creedmore

I have three ARs one 223, and two 556; I may try the creedmore, but I have better stuff on the larger bore, and just don't quite trust this platform. It takes me about an hour to finish an 80% on my mill, but I have just made a couple. Not interested in the 243 for the same reason, not enough pill to carry the energy.
When I hunt, I want a KILL, not a wound; although with coyotes, and hogs I will take what I can get!
