The Intel Core i9-7980XE Extreme Edition LGA 2066 Processor provides computing performance for a desktop system by offering eighteen cores, which operate at a stock speed of 2.6 GHz, for editing videos, composing soundtracks, and other demanding workloads. Its eighteen cores can achieve a maximum turbo frequency of up to 4.2 GHz while running intensive tasks, and the best performing cores can run at speeds of up to 4.4 GHz utilizing Intel Turbo Boost Max Technology 3.0. The Core i9-7980XE is equipped with Intel Hyper-Threading technology that enables each core to handle two instruction threads, providing the ability to handle up to thirty-six threads. If you need even more performance, this Skylake-X processor is unlocked, which lets you overclock the processor over its maximum speed. This Core X-series processor does not include a heatsink or fan and requires a sold-separately CPU cooling solution to function at these levels of performance.

Aside from processing power, the Core i9-7980XE provides 44 PCI Express 3.0 lanes to multiple graphics cards and PCIe-based M.2 SSDs. The processor is compatible with motherboards offering an LGA 2066 socket and has an average power requirement of 165W. When installed in a motherboard, the processor supports DDR4 2666 MHz memory modules, running in a quad-, dual-, or single-channel configuration. In addition, a total amount of 24.75MB of L3 cache memory is available for its eighteen cores. This product comes in retail packaging and includes a 3-year warranty.

Performance
The Intel Core X-series processor is designed to scale to the desktop's needs by using the fastest cores at higher frequencies when performance is required. The Intel Core X-series processor family is unlocked to provide additional headroom. Its features include the ability to overclock each core individually, AVX ratio controls for more stability, and VccU voltage control for extreme scenarios. With tools such as Intel's Extreme Tuning Utility (Intel XTU) and Extreme Memory Profile (Intel XMP), you'll have access to modify the system for maximizing performance.
Intel Smart Cache
All cores now have access to the entire last-level cache, pre-fetching data before requests are made. Intel Smart Cache also features a power-saving feature that dynamically flushes memory based on demand or during periods of inactivity, ensuring your applications keep up with your demands.
Intel Turbo Boost Max Technology 3.0
Intel Turbo Boost Max Technology 3.0 identifies your processor's fastest cores and directs your most critical workloads there. With improved single-threaded performance, you'll get the best performance possible out of your computer.
