A bit of a step in a different direction from other things I've done, but still related. In video games it's not uncommon for restoring the health of who or whatever you're playing to rely on some kind of potion. And not just health, but often stamina and mana/magic power as well. Many years ago I did a lot of cosplay, and figured out a pretty neat trick to making potions that not only looked as pretty and mysterious as their gaming counterparts but were actually drinkable too!
See the swirls of what looks like glitter in there? The pictures really do not ever do these beauties justice, the swirls are actually moving because I shook the bottle a little bit!
What's making that effect happen is a product known as Luster Dust. It's a very fine edible glitter that's actually made for cake decorating, but people figured out you could also add it to just about any mostly translucent liquid and it makes a swirling effect much like a galaxy full of stars.
Go over to Google and look up phrases like 'luster dust in liquid' to see more really cool photos and probably a video here and there. Most have also used a lot more of the dust than I did, or slightly less translucent liquids, but the point still stands.
In fact, what's in the picture shown is little more than some juice. I think it's apple banana strawberry? Something we got from the store, anyway. But this stuff also works amazing with things like Gatorade or even energy drinks, and the only thing I've found it doesn't work with is basically anything with milk or cream in it because then the liquid becomes too cloudy on its own to properly show the shimmer. So tea with cream or my coffee with a dairy-based creamer is a no-go for the dust, but beyond that it works perfectly.
The best part is a little goes a long way. It's usually under $5 for a decently sized vial that is usually white/silver but in some places they have a multitude of colors so if you wanted to add the dust even to just water you have a way to make it look colored without adding in food coloring or juice or whatever and you can still have regular, clear glass to store it in so you don't have to worry about finding tinted glass in the shape and size you need for your costume. Plus Luster Dust is completely odorless and tasteless, you probably won't even realize it's in your drink!
So next time you're making any kind of costume and you want to have magic potions on hand, remember Luster Dust. Add a little to whatever liquid you want, shake it up, and keep adding until the desired level of magic is reached. Then carry it with you, and whenever you want a drink just shake your bottle a little more to stir up the dust and you have magic in your hands that you can now consume :D

You should be able to find some at any craft store that sells baking supplies if you're located in the US. But you do specifically want Luster Dust that comes in a big tall tube and not the stubby sort of 'pot' that's labeled as Wilton brand. Wilton makes a lot of good stuff, but their shimmer dust stuff clumps in liquid and doesn't produce the same effect.

This is so cool @sigilmancy. I thought it was going to be something difficult, now it's a duh moment.

Right? I had sort of the same realization after I saw these ideas around the internet and tried it for myself the first time :)
