I have started hanging out in the fiction-workshop on PALNet and sometimes I have to disappear to go do "work".... well, this is the sort of thing I often mean.
I have a hobby workshop making rope and leather stuff, mainly horsemanship style supplies but also some western stuff. It's fun, but I am starting to rely more on my husband in some phases when my health isn't fully cooperative. I may have to cut down how much I take on in the future to avoid stress.
I got started as a kid to some extent. My mother did a lot of crafts and introduced me to basic leatherworking. My father had been an Eagle scout growing up and did a lot of neat knot work. I did some knot stuff and macrame for 4H. Then as an adult and getting horses, I started making stuff for my own horses and soon people wanted something, so I started selling a little of it. It isn't always easy, as I both know the challenges of having horses on a very tight budget (we have 7) and am a bit too much of a perfectionist. I find I really need quality rope for my horsemanship tools to work right and not everyone is happy with what that costs.
This is an order I shipped out earlier in the week.
And few closer shots:
Just thought I'd share in case anyone was curious.
My workshop webpage is pretty much only in Danish.
Don't worry--tomorrow I will probably go back to the more common writing and reading related babble. I did warn you I was scatter-brained. ;-)
I am a huge fan of rawhide crops and whips. An older gent used to handmake items. It was cool because even though he was like 80+ he worked skillfully and with precision. I wish to see more.

Thanks!! I don't do rawhide myself. I haven't the energy to make it, can't find a quality I like here, and I'm pretty sure my hands couldn't cope. I have trouble with them sometimes doing splices and tightening knots.

Yeah, I have trouble with that too. Still looks good and functional though.
