Project model railway #28 - Where are the trains?

in creative •  6 years ago

Scrolling through my posts I figured out that there are almost no trians visible.
Wich is odd since it's supposed to be a model railway.
Lets change this! This are the currently active trains cruising through Klein Waldberg.

As you might know, I try ti be as authentic as possible, therefore I'll provide a photograph from back then when those machine actually were service. All trains are from the ÖBB (Österreichische Bundesbahn / Austrian Railway)

Let's start with the smallest one.

ÖBB 688
Was also called "Glaskasten" (glass case)
With his max speed of 50km/h the usage was limited to shunting railway carriage. BUT thanks to it's little size this machine could by operated by one single person.

Original from Salzburg, 1957

The next one is a little bit bigger and more modern. One of the earlier ones with a diesel engine.

ÖBB 2143
Having more than 1500 HP an up to 100 km/h this "beast" had a broad usage. First machines in Austria were build in 1964.

And now the "big boy". My model comes fully equipped with a sound module and smoke generator

ÖBB 52
This impressive machine was build between 1942 and 1945 which gave her the name Kriegslokomotive (War Locomotive). They build over 7000 of them. After the 2nd world war those machines were essential for rebuilding the country and were used in Austria until 1976.

I have been to the San Diego Model Railroad Museum many times in California and that is the only place I have seen model trains so well set up like this.

I am so happy you showed the originals so we can see how good your models are. The Glaskasten is adorable in both versions. That may not be the what you are going for, but they sure made a cute engine.

What a great hobby is this! I still have my trains somewhere boxed at the attic. Hopefully I can build it up as a project you're creating here with my kids (if I'm lucky enough to get them once).
Really love the amount of detail you put in all of your work. Hope you don't mind I start following you? ;)

Sure, thank you for the follow. I hope you will enjoy new (and past) content :)

When you keep those trains coming I'l enjoy for sure! :)

Ah I am so glad you made a post focused on the trains! This is amazing :) I have loved every one of your model village posts but honestly this one takes the cake. The smoke generator is so cool! That smoke looks amazing coming out of that big black locomotive! Resteemed :)

Thank you for the resteem :)
Is there anything else you would like to see more in detail?

Always a pleasure to see these posts, @wirago, and featuring the trains was a good change of pace, even if all the detail that you've been putting into this is spectacular in and of itself. Just simply amazing.

It's interesting to me how the distinct look (size, shape) of each engine has so much to do with the technology and understanding of things at the time. The newer engine is so much more sleek and aerodynamic while the others look like they were built to last and could out perform expectations.

Congratulations on the curie upvotes. Well deserved. :)

How much are those models? Like the one the one with smoke?

The model itself is about 250-300€. Plus sound module plus smoke generator you're at 350-400€.

I'm really glad to see another model railroader on the steem blockchain!
Your railroad really looks good! I like how you included pictures of the original engines to go along with the models.
I'm glad that @carlgnash resteemed this post, I would have missed it otherwise. Now I have to follow you to see more of these posts. :-)

Thank you for the follow. I hope you will enjoy new (and past) content :)

You have done excellent work with the modeling. I remember i had some LIMA models myself as a kid but the prices were too high for continuing this hobby..

Yeah, it's very time and money consuming. But it's easy for my wife to find christmas presents :D

This, as a precent is making you a kid again !

hi @wirago
Truly a great job! I love trains and I loved your historical reconstruction of all your models. And nice photos! Congratulations

Thank you for the kind words. Glad you like it :)

Great model. I find that hobby fascinating. What parts of the scene do you buy already made and what parts do you actually make?
Are your models displayed permanently at home or someplace else, or is it something you dismantle after some time?

The trains were already build and some of the trees are premade. But the rest of the environment ist made by myself.
My models are displayed permanently. This is how it currently looks like (work still in progress)

That looks fantastic. Thanks

cool that helps put everything in perspective seeing it in relationship with the room :)
