First Quick Macro Shoot with the 90D

in creativecoin •  5 years ago

So these are the first macro images that I've taken with the 90D. I managed to sneak out over my lunch break but all I could really find were some flies hanging around on the waterproof cover of my barbeque and Boris the spider in his usual position. Didn't take any good shots of Boris though - he was not really facing the right way.

First impressions are good though. The detail and sharpness seem like a massive improvement over the 60D and I tried shooting these ones with focus peaking using the LCD screen in live view mode which I haven't done before. It was surprisingly easy to do. Focus peaking is pretty cool - the in-focus parts of the image glow with red pixels and as soon as you get the eyes of your subject to do that you hit the shutter. It's a bit different from my previous technique which was using Magic Lanterns focus trap function (fires the shutter when something comes into focus) but I think I'll get the hang of it. Not being limited by having to use the eyepiece could allow many different angles that I haven't been able to get to before. The only thing I really do not like about using the LCD is the glare from the sun but I've ordered an anti-glare screen protector so I will see how that does.
