In the midst of the night, Harley, a young boy, who just reached the age of 9, sat in his room pondering the abilities of the world. He was an only child who had a loving mother and a loving father.
Harley always imagined himself to be a super hero, at least he wanted to become one as he aged. As he grew, he and his father watched Marvel movies nightly. And on this particular night had been the first night a superhero movie wasn't watched. Sadly, Harley's dad had past away early in the day from a traumatic heart attack caused by unknown reasoning's. Harley's family was struck with grief, and it left Harley feeling lonely and defeated as the cruel world had just taken his best friend away.
As he sat there in his bed, which was uplifted by a handmade wooden frame his dad had created. The frame was chiseled to perfection, and stained with love and care. Outlines of bears, tigers, and lions roamed the bottom portion of the frame, and trees stretched up to form the head board. The bottoms looked like rocks, rounded for superb stability for the king size mattress. Harley's dad had always told Harley that one day he'd be seen as a king, so for now he must sleep like one. And he did.
Tears began to trickle down Harley's face, and he began to muffle and weep. The muffles and weeping grew louder as Harley began to recall all of the wonderful memories he had had with his dad. The times in the park when his dad would push him on the swing, or chase him through the leaves. And the times at home when they would cook together and talk about Harley's learning's at school. And of course the movie nights, where Harley and his dad would cuddle up in the warm sofa to watch movies while Harley's mother would clean up from the fresh meals Harley and his dad had prepped. Usually since the meals were so fine, Harley's mother would often bake chocolate chip cookies that were ready just in time for the movie. Honestly, timed perfectly after the into previews she would bring in the warm plate and then leave to two for their night.
It's not that Harley's mom didn't like Marvel movies, she just respected and admired the time they spent together. So while they watched the movies, she would make her way up into her bedroom to read her favorite romantic novel.
Harley's mom had started to hear Harley crying because their rooms shared a wall. She opened the door to his kingdom, and sat upon the bed next to him. She wrapped her loving arms around him and kissed him just above his ear. She gave him a little affirming shake while she said, "everything is going to be okay sweetie." She was doing her best to hold back her tears. She needed to be strong for Harley, but she too had just lost someone she loved so much.
"I know we will be okay momma." Harley replied. "I am a super hero, and papa will always be here in our life's. You may not see him, but he is alive."
Harley cuddled up next to his stuffed bear, closed his eyes to fall asleep. His mother tucked him in tightly, and gave him a kiss on the head. She sat there for a few moments looking out Harley's window into the dazzling night sky. She then walked over to turn off the light and looked back at Harley who was now asleep, and began to cry. "Please never leave." she whispered.
And from the corner of the room she heard, "I never will."
