So I started thinking (and that is dangerous by the way)! Where has all the creativity gone?
@denmarkguy wrote an article entitled State of Steem: What Remains, When You Remove All the _______?
His observation is that more "content" is being created than ever, but that the majority of the posts that are flooding his Steem feed are automated posts.
For example:
- DrugWars battle posts - I have stayed away from the DrugWars craze.
- ActiFit updates - Guilty, but in my defense, I am trying to become more healthy.
- SteemHunt links - I prefer to make a return on my product recommendations
- "Naked" Appics shares - No naked photos of me, no matter how (acti)fit I become.
- Various Dlike links - Tried in once. May try again later.
- SteemMonsters posts - Guilty, but only if there is something extraordinary to report and a question about something that was unexpected.
I think I understand @denmarkguy's point. We are producing content, but sometimes the content is ... well ... not exceptional. I have some seen some great posts to the above-mentioned projects and dapps.
I have also seen people just trying to push out easy posts for rewards with no thoughts about value. And I have been guilty of doing the same.

People Tend To Go For Easy When Creativity Goes Out the Window
I want to be very honest. I have been struggling to create lately. We all struggle at times, but the last few weeks have been a dry spell for me. And here is the kicker. I love to create content. I really do.
The following are some of the challenges I am facing that is leading to a decline in my creative capacity.
- Health Issues - I seem to have something flare up or break down at least once a week. My body is just plain worn out.
- Mentally and Emotionally Drained - When your body wears down, your mind follows. I have not been able to find mental, spiritual, and emotional renewal. Instead of taking a break for a week or more, so that I can recharge, I just keep pushing out the easy, automated updates.
- Life Keeps Moving - My mind and heart are working through a move in the next few months, how to provide for my family, sick kiddos, a much-needed vacation that will probably not happen, etc. My life is easy compared to people I know who have lost jobs, lost family members, and lost their homes. Life keeps moving and sometimes creativity takes a back seat.
- Lack of Buffer Time - Creativity requires time and effort. When there is no "extra" time something has to give.
- Disappointment - It is hard to create when you are discouraged. It is hard to create when you don't feel like you are being valued. It is hard to create when you forget your vision and your purpose.
Final Thoughts
Re-examine why you are here! Re-examine why you joined this community! Re-examine what your goals and dreams are!
Since joining the Steem community I have felt many ups and downs. I have seen the roller coaster rides of many of my fellow community members as well. Sometimes I fell a bit lost, like a ship without a rudder. Sometimes I feel down, alone without support. But in the end, I seem to bounce back. I seem to find the connection in this community I am looking for.
I hope and prayer for a renewal of creativity so that I can add value. The automated posts will still come (and I will be apart of some of them), but the value posts is what I truly desire to be apart of.
Thanks for stopping by!
@SumatraNate
I'm currently facing a similar dilemma, with a massive lack of inspiration. I know that inspiration is coming with hard work, but it is so difficult to put more energy in something that currently does not inspire me...

I'd like to send a hug and a little encouragement for you to find a way to make space for creativity in your life. It really is important and can counteract many of the negative issues you've listed.

Try freewriting with the daily post @mariannewest's blog. This really helps me and I do it almost daily. It brings out lot of creativity in a relatively short post and you will meet a lot of other great steemers there, especially if you take part in the @freewritehouse activities.

@fitinfun already invited you to the freewrite. We love for you to participate. That said, sometimes, we just need to take a break.
How old are your kids? We are thinking of doing a story telling contest at the Freewritehouse. Video. But you don’t have to show your face
