Maybe you still remember my last articles about our journey to Crete? I reported about the long walk through the Samariá Gorge and the beautiful Elafonissi beach. This time I would like to show you photos of Knossos Lake Kournas and some nice flowers and insects of this beautiful island.	Vielleicht erinnert ihr euch noch an meine letzten Artikel über unsere Kreta-Reise? Ich berichtete über die Wanderung durch die Samaria-Schlucht und den schönen Strand von Elafonissi. Dieses Mal möchte ich Fotos von Knossos dem Kournas-See und einigen hübschen Blüten und Insekten zeigen.

Knossos is famous for the "Palace of Knossos", one of the biggest Minoan palaces of Crete. It was built between 2100 and 1800 BC (not all sources give the same data here) and since then several times destroyed and rebuilt again. In Knossos it is also said to have taken place the myth of the Minotaur.	Knossos ist berühmt für den "Palast von Knossos", einen der größten minoischen Paläste auf Kreta. Er wurde zwischen 2100 und 1800 v. Chr. errichtet (nicht alle Quellen liefern hier einheitliche Daten) und seitdem mehrere Male zerstört und wieder neu aufgebaut. In Knossos soll sich auch der Mythos des Minotauros zugetragen haben.

The Lake Kournas is the only natural freshwater lake of Crete. This lake and its environment offer a valuable habitat to many species of animals, for example turtles, snakes, frogs, fishes, different kinds of crustacea, birds and dragonflies. Photos have been taken from a borrowed pedal boat. Unfortunately most of the animal pictures are too blur and not clear enough to be presented here (for example turtles are extremely shy and dive under immediately as soon as they notice the slightest movement).

Der Kournas-See ist der einzige natürliche Süßwassersee Kretas. Er und seine Umgebung bieten zahlreichen Tierarten, z. B. Wasserschildkröten, Schlangen, Fröschen, Fischen, verschiedenen Krebstieren, Vögeln und Libellen ein wertvolles Habitat. Die Fotos wurden von einem ausgeliehenen Tretboot aus aufgenommen. Die meisten Tierbilder wurden leider zu verschwommen und undeutlich, um sie hier präsentieren zu können (Wasserschildkröten sind z. B. äußerst scheu und tauchen bei der geringsten Bewegung schnell unter).

On our way to the lake ... Can you see the beekeeping boxes? And olive trees are typical for Crete. /
Auf dem Weg zum See ... Könnt ihr die Bienenhäuschen sehen? Und Olivenbäume sind typisch für Kreta. After the long walk under the hot sun it was very nice to swim in the cool water! /
Nach dem langen Marsch unter heißer Sonne war es sehr angenehm, im kühlen Wasser zu schwimmen.

At the end to enjoy and relax some nice Cretan flowers and insects. :)

Zum Schluss, um sich daran zu erfreuen und sich zu entspannen, ein paar schöne kretische Blüten und Insekten. :)

This kind of bee Xylocopa violacea belongs to the order Hymenoptera and reaches a length of nearly 3 cm! /
Diese "Große Holzbiene" Xylocopa violacea gehört zur Ordnung Hymenoptera und erreicht eine Körperlänge von fast 3 cm!

Not only humans often get greedy if there is something for free ... :) /
Nicht nur Menschen werden oft gierig, wenn es etwas umsonst gibt ... :)

Also this bizarre beetle, order Coleoptera, superfamily Curculionoidea visited our table. / Auch dieser bizarr erscheinende Rüsselkäfer, Ordnung Coleoptera, Überfamilie Curculionoidea besuchte unseren Tisch.
