Most sportsmen strive to be the best they can as that is what you just do. If you are a runner you are improving your times against the clock. If you are a fast bowler in cricket you are trying to bowl as fast as you can. It is not easy and by trying too hard you could be just doing the opposite and going backwards.
This I think will explain why Jofra Archer hasn't been as explosive as he was in his first game he played . Archer was seen as the new fast bowling hope of England and what we saw 2 games away is not the same bowler we are seeing today. In his first match he was pumped with adrenaline and showing what he was made of.

He has lost 5 mph already and is only in his 3rd game. If this was a sports car you had bought you would want your money back.
Archer has got slower and slower and has lost his weapon of speed. Without the speed he becomes average and much of the same and nothing special. If he doesn't find what is causing him to slow down then he could disappear altogether. Fast bowlers are there to bowl fast as a strike weapon and are used by teams to get wickets. Archers speed now is nothing special and is more of an average fast bowler. The speeds he is bowling now tell us two things and his coaches need to sort it out. One he is trying too hard and isn't relaxed letting his action create the speed or he is unfit and not used to bowling so much. I doubt it is the second one as he looks seriously fit, but it could be a mixture of know it all attitude and technique.

This is England bowling coach Chris Silverwood and his job now is to find the answers.
When Allan Donald was bowling he always knew if something was not right and would watch slow motion replays of his action. It could be a crooked wrist or something minor, but a bit like a golf swing needs to be monitored constantly. You can't go from bowling 96 mph to bowling 82 mph as there is something seriously wrong. The speed difference is massive and someone needs to fix it.
I like Allan Donald and now Joffer Archer

This happens a lot in baseball too. I remember several years ago there was a new guy on the Tigers that was throwing over 100 MPH. His name was Joel Zumaya and he lasted about a season or two before he needed surgery and I am not sure he has ever fully recovered. I am not sure if he is even still playing.
