The ODI series continues in Pune with India looking to bounce back from their defeat in the opening encounter to level the series.
New Zealand made little work of the 281-run target as Ross Taylor and Tom Latham shared a 200-plus partnership.
Another showing like that would surely lead New Zealand to a shock victory over India in front of a sell-out capacity crowd.
Virat Kohli will be key to India’s success and will be looking to build on his impressive display from the first ODI that saw him reach his 31st ODI century.
A New Zealand triumph would secure their first one-day series win in India and end a run of six ODI series victories on the bounce for the hosts.
The Black Caps have altered their batting order with Colin Munro opening and Martin Guptil and Tom Latham into the middle-order and Taylor is hoping for a repeat performance.
“With that [new] line-up we know we can attack at the top and it does put the onus on the bowlers to perform and Munro did a great job," Taylor said.
“To bring Tom in here, he was one of our best batters last tour and with him with the extra keeping responsibility, it might be quite tough to come out in that situation and open the batting.
"But for positions five and six, we've been searching for a bit of consistency and Tom, not only in the new role as 'keeper but to bat at five, to score a very successful fifty, hundred and hundred, hopefully he can continue that and the balance of our side improves with Tom batting at five."
