Is it really justified?
I'm not going to go down the path of abusing Ravi Shastri like the others on the internet because I truly believe that he deserves a lot of credit for some of the things that he has done with the team. We may not see it necessarily from the outside but the people in the change room seem to think so, so we need to give credit where credit is due to Shastri but is it really justified that Shastri can go on board and say this win is the best win compared to the World Cup, the World Series? (Here is the video for reference) I definitely don't think so.
Here is why:
1> Heavily depleted Australian team. Their bowling was fantastic but without David Warner and Steve Smith imagine India playing without Kohli and Pujara. The only real difference between the two teams here was Pujara so clearly Australia would have won if they had their 2 best test batsman in the team. But let's scratch that argument for now.
2> The WACA pitch. This drop in pitch was nowhere close to the real Perth wicket where Tendulkar, Dravid, Laxman, Ganguly and co won against a much stronger Australian team with a much more potent bowling attack. Sure, the current Indian team can fight but I don't think they have won enough matches against very tough opponents (SA, England in the last year).
3> The current Indian team is heavily monetized and they don't have to worry about a lot of basic needs for a professional cricketer like money as there is a revenue source, the IPL. Going by Maslow's law of hierarchies, it is much easier for cricketers to perform very well when their basic needs are met. At this point, it is almost mandatory to do exceptionally well at serving the country because the country gave them so much already. Did the previous teams (the Tendulkars, Gavaskars, Kapil Devs) have that? I don't understand why Ravi Shastri out of all people doesn't get this. He never had the IPL and he knew what it meant to represent the country without getting paid a ton of money during that time so I sincerely request him to stop making these idiotic comparisons.
You are absolutely correct
He should nt be comparing.
That test match win at perth was an epic
