  1. India will play Australia in the final of the Under-19 World Cup

  2. India thrashed Pakistan by 203 runs in the semi-final

  3. The final will be played on Saturday

Former India cricket captain Sourav Ganguly on Wednesday said the Under-19 squad would win the ICC World Cup beating Australia in the final. India, on Tuesday, defeated arch-rivals Pakistan by a whopping 203 runs to reach the final where they will meet Australia on Saturday. "India will win the U-19 World Cup," Ganguly told reporters on the sidelines of a Cricket Year Book's 20th anniversary. "Shubman Gill, (Kamlesh) Nagarkoti, (Shivam) Mavi, Ishan Porel they are exceptional talent," he added.

"Indian cricket system is so good that the structure has been made and without sructure you cannot produce cricketers. These players are products of Indian cricket scructure. In the next five years, Indian cricket, save Australia and England, will be the best in the world," added Ganguly, who was in New Zealand for the initial few matches of the World Cup.

The Prithvi Shaw-skippered side beat the Aussies by 100 runs in their first match of the tournament

"Our infrastrucsture and system is great. The madness for Indian Premier League is massive. They fill the stands and it's madness. So the support of the people will take this sport forward," he said.

"I hope they win under (chief coach) Rahul (Dravid). They won convincingly in every game. They beat Australia by more than 100 runs and hope they do it in the final also," Ganguly continued.

Besides beating Australia by 100 runs in their first game, India colts thumped minnows Papua New Guinea and Zimbabwe by ten wickets, then thrashed neighbours Bangladesh in the quarter-final by 131 runs.

Asked about Bengal's medium-pacer Ishan Porel, who returned figures of 4/17 in six overs in the semi-final, Ganguly said, "He is a (Cricket Association of Bengal's) Vision 2020 product. He stays in Bali (outskirt of Kolkata) and from there he had joined us.

"The Cooch Behar Trophy U-19 which we won, he had a huge role to play. He and Kanishk Seth did well. U-19 is a stepping stone. He has to bridge the gap between U-19 and the senior level. We will help him go in the right direction," Ganguly said.

The India U-19 team brushed their opponents aside with commanding victories on the way to their sixth ICC Under-19 World Cup final. The likes of Prithvi Shaw, Shubman Gill, Ishan Porel, and Kamlesh Nagarkoti among others have dished out fine performances, which have got them recognition in the cricketing fraternity. Courtesy Gill's (102 not out) heroics with the bat in the semi-final, India beat arch-rivals Pakistan by a margin of 203 runs. Following their win, accolades poured in from former and present cricketers as they praised the team for an incredible victory. Among the wishes was former Pakistan cricketer Ramiz Raja who not only hailed the team's temperament but also credited former India cricketer Rahul Dravid's role in unearthing talent.

Ramiz was not impressed with Pakistan U-19 team's performance after they suffered a humiliating loss in the semis and said that the youth cricket needs a Dravid-like coach.

"We need to have given someone charge for a proper time period like India has done with Rahul Dravid," he said.

However, the former Pakistan cricketers heaped praise on the Indian youngsters.

"I am impressed with the temperament shown by some of the Indian players. They have a fine find in Shubman Gill and others. Rahul Dravid deserves a lot of credit for preparing and grooming them so effectively," he said.

Ramiz said having someone like Dravid as their coach and mentor was a big boost for the Indian youngsters.

"They learn such a lot from him not just about cricket but about everything else. How to conduct oneself, how to develop a game sense and so on," he said.

Ramiz said he was disappointed with the lack of batting talent in the Pakistan U-19 team.

"The way our players fielded and batted it wasn't pleasant to watch. I think in Pakistan we need a total revamp of our youth cricket system. The Cricket Board needs to pay a lot more attention to youth cricket," he said.

India's under-19 batsman Shubman Gill's father was elated as he watched his son slam a memorable hundred against Pakistan in the U-19 World Cup semi-final yesterday. Watching Shubman on television also brought back memories for Lakhwinder Singh Gill. "My son did not want to be a farmer like me. He wanted to pursue his career in sports. My employees and I used to bowl at him everyday. He trains for four to five hours daily and never skips his practice sessions," Lakhwinder said from Mohali.

"We purchased a bowling machine and when we got tired of bowling to him, my son would continue with the bowling machine," he added. Lakwinder and wife Keart turned on their television sets in the wee hours of yesterday morning to watch their son play at the Hagley Oval in Christchurch, New Zealand.

"We watched the match from the first ball and were a little tense in the last over. However, we were confident about Shubman getting his century. His hard work has paid off. We are very happy with his performance. It was a big match against Pakistan and Shubman's mother is equally thrilled," Lakwinder revealed. The Gills have preserved all of Shubman's bats and his current willow will also find a special place in the Gill house.
