First don't show your wealth. Burglars only break into your home when they have a suspicion there is something to take. When you live a low key life they won't bother you that easily.

Always watch your surroundings and report suspicious behaviour. Especially when you live in a high risk area. 

Don't tell people when you go on a vacation. People sometimes post this on social media, that's stupid because burglars can see it to when nobody is home. Also don't make your house look like nobody is home. When the mail box is full and the gras isn't mowed for 3 weeks, it's not hard to tell.
