First and foremost, we should always engage in a small, bittersweet celebration when a person who was falsely accused and convicted of one of the worst things a person can possibly do is exonerated and goes free.
It's sweet because the man has some of his life back.
It's bitter because he spent almost as many years as I've been alive in prison for something that he didn't do. It's also bitter that it's an indictment upon our criminal justice system. It's also horrifying that an innocent man spent 33 years in prison while the real child rapist went free. It's disgusting that millions of Americans, particularly fake champions of criminal justice and policing reform, are so skeptical of the idea of the presumption of innocence.
I'm also willing to bet that Black Lives Matter will issue no statement about this. They were silent about Ledell Lee and Anthony Broadwater. Why shouldn't they be silent now?
