I needed a small break so I visited Rovinj yesterday. It is a beautiful city in Istria, Croatia. There is a big tunnel, called Učka, you need to pass through to get to Istria land, and whenever I go through it I feel like I am returning home. Istria is the best place in the whole world for me and I have visited its many places.
4 months ago I joined steemit and the post about Rovinj was my second post on this platform. You can check that post here: Rovinj, pictures that tell a story. Today, you will read how my recent trip to Rovinj went, just keep in mind that my photographic skills are fairly poor just as the device I used. I made around 50 photos and these are the ones that passed my "are you terrible or not" test hehe, so they will be posted here.
My brother had some work to do there so he took me and my friend along for the ride. As he was working, we girls were exploring the city, enjoying the sun and the sea. It was such a pleasure to return, once again, after long 4 months of absence, to my dreamland. Istria is just that, a dreamland. Fantastic in every way.
There is a 3-hour drive from my city to Rovinj and since we stopped and took a small break from driving, it took us about 3.5 hours to reach Rovinj. We set off at 6:30 am and were there around 10 am. It was a gorgeous morning. The Sun was shining and there isn't a better feeling than walking out of the car and smelling the salt in the air.
I could not have had a better company on my trip than my friend Marina. We share a special connection and sometimes I think I never had a better friend than her. She is an amazing person and I hope her studying commitments will decrease soon and she will continue her steemit journey for all of you to get to meet her too.
I am glad she agreed to come with me. It was good for her to take a little break from studying and enjoy herself. We took a long walk around the old city and explored its many narrow streets and colorful facades. There is much to see in Rovinj, and if I had a better camera, I would have shared it all with you. You can see a great big old church, many lovely houses and lots of flowers. The entire city has a great flowery scent.
There were a lot of tourists in the city. A tourist season in Istria is very long. It starts somewhere in February and lasts up to November. This is because Istria has a great climate and a great range of content. Whatever you are looking for in your vacation, Istria has it.
We found this little guy to be very photogenic. Rovinj has many seagulls, especially near the sea. We were kidding around that the only thing missing was them barking like dogs because they were equally domestic and behaving in a tame way.
Rovinj has steps, steps and then some more steps. It is either that kind of streets or the ones with an elevation. I prefer the steps but we did walk over some without them too.
It was a great and relaxing day...

Old Rovinj has rock floors and a lot of old stone houses. Houses that are modernized are at least colorful and nice so the whole place has an artistic feel. There are many ateliers and artists who live and work in the city. Some of them are pretty amazing.
The mix of ancient and modern is perfect and you have a feeling of being in a really special place. Marina and I were walking and constantly saying "Look at that!" and "Awww". I think we have said it a thousand times lol.
I had to show Marina the best place in the world to have a cup of coffee. It is a small cafe at the top of the city, below the old stone gates. Tables are on the grass, you are sitting next to trees and there is a lot of mint planted around so the air has a mixture of peppermint smell from the plants and the salt that is always present. Coffe is not bad, and the waiter was handsome so there are two more pluses but the best thing is the sound. There is no traffic allowed in the old city so there are NO CARS. You can not hear anything except the birds and the sea... Almost anything. Johnny Cash was playing on the radio. Did I say that this was the best place to have a cup of coffee? 😎
This is that gorgeous view. A small meadow and the sea reaching the horizon. There were a couple of sailboats on the water and seagulls flying above. There is nothing more peaceful to look at for me and Marina loved it too. We were talking and taking some pictures but only for a little while. The rest of the time was pure relaxation. Breathing in the beauty, breathing out gratitude. This is how the view looks like:
After we had our coffee it was time to catch some sun and decide if the water was warm enough for this years first swim. Luckily for us, it was. The difference between the temperature of the sea and that of air was only about 3 degrees. Getting into the water was a bit tricky but once I was in, I did not want to get out lol. It was amazing.
My brother finished his work and joined us at the beach before we went for one last walk around the city and guess what I found? @dreemsteem hidden hideout. LOL
It is a pirate themed candy shop with huge barrels filled with candy. I asked the people inside if they know @dreemsteem but they said no. I guess she pays big money to keep her hideaway a secret but I am on to her. She can not fool me...
It was a great and relaxing day...
I came back refreshed and happier than ever...
