The "Lemmysuchus" - almost twenty feet long - was one of Earth's biggest coastal predators more than 145 million years ago.

A Jurassic crocodile that terrorized coastal waters around the UK was named after Lemmy frontman Motorhead.

Like the song of hell called by name, the creature was not a diminished purple.

At 19ft (5.8m) long, with a skull weighed just over a meter, he used his large and open teeth to crush the bones and turtle shells.

She would be one of the greatest coastal robbers of her time, when she passed the Earth more than 145 million years ago.

Now it's called Lemmysuchus, which translates as "Lemmy's crocodile".

It comes after a study of a fossil skeleton located at the London Natural History Museum, which was dug out of a clay pot near Peterborough in 1909 by paleontologist at the University of Edinburgh Michela Johnson.

Mrs. Johnson realized she was wrongly classified and asked for a new scientific name, inspired by Lemmy, who came from Lorna Steel of the Museum of Natural History.

"Although Lemmy died at the end of 2015, we would like to think that he would lift a glass to Lemmysuchus, one of the sea creatures that ever lived on Earth," said Dr Steel.

"As a longtime fan at Motorhead I'm shocked that I had the chance to immortalize the rock star this way."

Lemmysuchus was part of a reptilian disappearance group known as teleosaurs, who were closely related to today's crocodiles.

"It may be difficult to identify new species, as we normally work with skeletons of incomplete fossils," said Mrs. Johnson, a PhD student.

"Following a careful anatomical comparison, and referring to the main sample held at the Museum of Natural History, we can see that most of the previous findings were actually from Lemmysuchus's relatives and not by the species itself and we were in Able to designate a new name. "
