What is Alien Worlds?

Alien worlds is a decentralized web-based "game" that takes place in a sci-fi world. You can own property, mine TLM (the token), upgrade tools and avatars, with even more features in the pipeline. Checkout its website!

Activity 8/10

As of this writing, Alien worlds is one of the most popular dapp games. I know that isn't saying much, but the 10 people playing it have an active and vibrant community. The discord server is filled with helpful people, and the metrics boast of 9K active users in the past 24 hours.

Documentation 4/10

Something important when playing a game is understanding what to actually do. I know what you are thinking, "Read through the source code you retarded noob". Yeah well that sounds boring. Understanding the basics such as how to mine, card stats(and what they mean), and how to buy and sell items is buried. Their is a decent amount of documentation, though it seems to be targeted to crypto nerds not normies. At the end of the day I am sure more tutorials and more efficient systems of communicating core game mechanics will evolve over time.

Game Mechanics 6/10

The core mechanic is "mining". Essentially you select a plot of land and click a "mine" button that gives you a certain amount of LTM and sometimes equipment. You can also upgrade, buy and sell equipment and avatars.
At the beginning getting anything is really hard. I am assuming that the longer you play the easier it is to get gear and TLM.
This brings up an observation, the entire game progression is inverted. Typically, a game will start out easy and then get progressively harder. Alien worlds flips that model on its head. It starts out really hard, but gets easier and easier.
This might have a negative affect on getting new users, but who knows.

Conclusion

All things considered, I am enjoying my space adventure on AW. At its current state, its not terribly engaging, however the community is awesome, the world is cool, and it has momentum. After-all we are not using alt-tech/dapps because we like them in their current state. We use these dapps because of where they will be. I think Alien Worlds has that potential to be something great!
