Cryopreservation

in cryonics •  6 years ago

A few months ago I wrote about something to believe in. This will be a kinda follow up post.

In the last weeks I informed me about cryonics and cryopreservation. The whole thing got startet with an article on “WaitButWhy?” (Why Cryonics Makes Sense).

Wait what? What’s Cryonics and Cryopreservation?

Simply it’s about freezing (well, not freezing actually it’s vitrifying) your body after your “legal death” and potentially getting revived sometime in the future.

I heavily recommend reading the wait but why article, but I think you should get the gist with my simple explanation.

What does that mean?

Well, instead of getting eaten by worms or burn in a hot fire (by the way, I hate funerals) I’m thinking about getting myself cryopreserved after my death.

Why am I thinking about that?

Well, live is short, I’ve seen several deaths since I’m paramedic, the youngest one was 59, if I remember correctly, he died while working (no, not a accident, just a heart attack).

The thing is, once you’re dead your pretty much gone. Sure there could be live after death but I’m not that religious to believe that (at least currently).

Sure your are also dead when your will be frozen, but there is a possibility that your will be revived sometime in the future. Maybe in 100 years, maybe in 1000. Or never. But there is this possibility that it could be happening.

You fear of death?

No, not really. I try to live every day as good as possible, as it could be the last. I wouldn’t have a problem to die tomorrow if it has to be so (even tough I have so much more things to do, loosing virginity, visit the us, getting my PrivatePilotLicense, visit the moon, …).

But your in your twenties

Sure I am, but bad things happen every day and I don’t think I will be visiting moon anytime soon. There is so much to learn, so much todo that I think 70 or 80 years from now aren’t enough. Cryopreservation is at least a chance, and the technique behind it is really interesting (if your really into medics). Sure it could be that I’m never gonna be revived but when the worms are done eating you, or the fire is turned of there is definitely no chance on waking up again (unless live after death is real).

So I got into contact…

… with a company providing such “services”. I did not make a final decision yet. Next weekend I’m going to visit a national meeting of cryonists in Germany. I’ll post an update on this after that.
