Atari game maker plans to launch its own virtual currency. Atari is the company behind a series of legendary video games, such as Pac-Man and Pong.

Quoting CoinDesk, Saturday (17/2/2018), as part of the plan, Atari acquired a 15 percent stake in Gibraltar's Infinity Networks Ltd. In addition, Atari has also pocketed the Atari Token brand license.

The cooperation of both parties has been established since December 2017 for the development of Atari Token platform. However, Atari claimed not poured a lot of money for the action of the corporation.

"Our goal is to take a strategic position with limited cash risk, to create the best value with Atari's assets and trademarks," said Atari CEO Frederic Chesnais in his official statement.

Earlier, Atari had created the Atari Token as a currency to make in-game purchases. However, the new Atari Token function has not been announced.

In addition, Atari also expressed its plan to integrate a number of virtual currencies through a branding partnership with Pariplay Ltd., which offers online games using Atari games and characters as part of their design.

Atari announced it would create a second virtual currency, which can be used for online casinos. The virtual currency is called Pong Token.

"To expand interest in this new casino, and when Atari Token is available, Atari has a project to launch Pong Token, a second token dedicated to crypto casinos and can be used for gaming sites," Atari said.

The plan announced by Atari has led to a comparison with Kodak, the photography giant who launched the KodakCoin virtual currency. The project was announced in January 2018, with a plan to issue a coin at the end of the month

However, token sales were later postponed. To date, Kodak has not announced the launch date of KodakCoin.
