Is multi cryptocurrency needed?

I've been looking at all the listings of crypto currencies and wondering if it is necessary to have multiple crypto currency. Having multiple crypto currency simply mirrors the currency model of the physical world, wouldn't it be better to have 1 single world currency instead?

    Great question. But all the other cryptos fund bitcoin. Bitcoin goes up, people dump cryptos and buy bitcoin. Bitcoin goes down, people buy cryptos.
