A couple weeks ago the Crypto Bug bit me. I am looking at it as a medium to long term investment to supplement my meager 401k. I don't really have a lot of disposable cash so I plan on investing $20-50 a paycheck into altcoins. Although Bitcoin and Etherium are the "big boys" on the block...chain (sorry I couldn't resist), I feel the time for a small time investor such as myself to get into them has passed. It seems it would take a lot more market movent to double or triple my money in BTC then it would in an up and coming coin that's valued at a few cents.
Currently I'm putting my money in the following:
Stratis
EOS
AMP
SC
XEM
XRP
STEEM
I intend to hold these for 5 years or more. I don't have the nerves or the knowledge for day trading yet. I'd like to hear your thoughts on my choice of coins so far as a long term investment. I'm not concerned about the flavor of the day... I'm looking for companies that have a solid product that I can see a use for in the near future as well as a solid development team. I'd like to hear your suggestions for other low cost coins with a bright future.
Other coins I'm currently looking into for future investment include:
NXT
PAY
MRV
Sweet man! I love to see the enthusiasm from new investors in the crypto-sphere. I have been a trader and Bitcoin user for years and if you ever need any help hit me up on my blog. Here is my latest BTC price forecast: https://steemit.com/bitcoin/@hotsauceislethal/bitcoin-price-forecast-7-24-2017
BTW great portfolio :) I hold some of the same coins and really believe that Siacoin, Ripple, New Economy Movement, STEEM and EOS are going to be the biggest winners on that list. The most important thing for a crypto to gain traction is the community and mission behind the project. Great post man- keep up the research and don't buy into the bubbles :) Good luck

My thought exactly, I am investing in newer altcoins just like you. But I like Antshares/NEO, Decentraland, OmiseGO, and some others, but Decentraland is about to be able to be purchased, and it is just about the coolest thing I have ever seen. Check out my posts about those altcoins, I try to share the details that someone would want to know before investing.

Thanks for the tips! I know about NEO, but haven't really heard of the other two... I'll have to look into them

SC and XRP are both long term holds in my portfolio.
A lot of exchanges let you set up repeating buys for a set amount on set intervals - if you are investing 20-50$ a paycheck that would be useful

Nice tip! Thank you, I'll have to look into that. Currently I'm buying LTC (because it transfers quickly) through Coinbase then sending it to the exchange, selling it, and purchasing my coin of choice. Ill definitely look into this to avoid the hassle and xfer fees.
