With the acquisition of digital currencies becoming so popular in the past year, video makers are not too excited about the interest of miners. Nvidia has asked retailers to take some steps to try to make sure that video cards will fall into the hands of gamers, not just in the hands of miners.

Nvidia is trying to protect gamers

Nvidia Corporation, a video card maker, wants retailers to limit the number of video cards they sell to miners. This is done in order to deal with extreme pricing and to limit the scarcity caused by the increasing profitability of mining in the world of digital currencies.

A review of the distribution of video cards in Germany found that four out of six retailers have introduced stricter limits on Nvidia's GeForce model in the past month. By limiting the number of cards per order to two or three, the manufacturer hopes to discourage miners by allowing gamers to acquire a new video card.

Crypto miners now push gamers out of the video card market for three main reasons. The first reason ASIC makers such as Bitmain are buying more and more chips from companies that produce similar hardware like TSMC, leaving fewer production opportunities for Nvidia. Second, large mining farms claim to receive large quantities of video cards directly from factories in China before they can even be placed on the market. Third, smaller professional miners buy hundreds of video cards from retailers or online as the price increases and this hinders gamers.
The Nvidia spokesperson, Boris Bowles, told the German magazine:

"For Nvidia, gamers are the first. All activities related to the GeForce product line are targeted at our main audience. To ensure that gamers will be able to purchase GeForce in the current situation, we recommend our trading partners to take the necessary measures. "

However, Nvidia emphasizes that retailers should not follow this recommendation because the manufacturer does not want to interfere with the freedom and independence of traders.
