I think your estimation of US liabilities is conservative. The number is far higher if you include all the land ever stolen (normally, we call that "conquered"), all the natural resources acquired through trade agreements and peace agreements after war, all of that could be considered a liability as it was aquired by force.

The U.S. certainly had and still has its "feet" in and on other lands.
