Growth doesn't always = progress

Dear Steemions,

Please don’t freak out. I’m not a hater. I’m an avid supporter of Blockchain and IPFS. Viva le Revolution!!

That being said, I think it’s important to note when a revolution is going off the rails a bit. And I believe this one is. Crytocurrenies.....so exciting when they appeared. But it has become clear that this is just another system that :

• creates inequality
• furthers the depletion of the Earth’s resources.

The mining of currency ( or the creation of value ) through the solving of the cryto puzzle.

• As the puzzle gets harder, the value of the coin goes up, so does the difficulty of mining the next coin. Which means only rich people/companies with large computing power can generate value = inequality.
• Higher value means more incentive to build more computers to mine more currency.
• More computers mean more natural resources consumed, ie materials to build computers and the power to keep them online.
• The value generated (which doesn’t balance with natural resources) encourages growth/development/expansion of society.

Unchecked resources consumption/value generation/growth within any ecosystem is bound to destroy that ecosystem. Like cancer.

It’s clear that this system is wrong...just look at the ridiculous inflation of prices of a currency that was created out of thin air!! ( I don’t mean to insult the complexity of creating the algorithms that underlie these cryto-currencies. It just doesn’t reflect true value. ) It’s like a game, made by high level programmers to trick everyone into believing they are doing something that has value.

But this is only a rant if there is no solution offered. Though I do not propose that I have the solutions to all these problems (smarter people try every day), I think I have some good ideas.

• National implementation of Blockchains, distributed through IPFS, within every industry for transparency and empowerment of every individual or institution to identify and own copyright to their resources.
• National value assessment of all natural and man-made resources through consensus voting of all citizens.
• Population growth limit through consensus voting of all citizens. I know what your thinking!! I don’t mean by force! Through education, statistics and common sense.
• Constitutional agreement defining the distribution of national resources through consensus voting of all citizens.
• Addition and distribution of value/resources ( which must always be balanced by it’s sustainability within our fragile ecosystem ) through consensus voting of all citizens.
• And finally......maybe for a generation or 2, most people will choose adoption of a child that didn’t make the choice to be part of this world. Rather than making the choice to bring another life to our finite Earth.

Peace, love and respect to all upon this Earth.
