The Russian authorities have moved from words to deeds. In December 2021, the central bank announced the possibility of blocking cryptocurrencies and transactions on the territory of the Russian Federation. Today, on January 20, 2022, the Head of the Central Bank, Elvira Nabiullina, agreed to take a course for a complete ban on cryptocurrencies, reportedly under pressure from the Federal Security Service. The authorities believe that foreign agents (honest media) are funded with the help of this technology. It is planned to ban mining and any interactions with cryptocurrency.
At the moment, there is a ban on cryptocurrency in the Russian Federation, but it is possible to buy digital assets outside the Russian Federation, both legal entities and individuals. Since 2021, citizens of the Russian Federation cannot use digital assets to pay for goods and services, but ownership of these assets is allowed.
