Brian Armstrong, the CEO of Coinbase, was interviewed on stage at the event, wherein he explained his vision for the future of Coinbase. In the interview, Armstrong foretells that Coinbase will host a large number of altcoins due to the growing standard of companies creating their own cryptocurrencies. He envisions this as new altcoins can run in cooperation with equity as an alternative investment system.
Currently, Coinbase supports five cryptocurrencies: Bitcoin, Litecoin, Ethereum, Ethereum Classic and Bitcoin Cash. It is most known for fiat-to-crypto conversions, as opposed to other major exchanges, which host crypto-to-crypto trading.
Brian Armstrong sees the addition of tokens native to individual companies as a natural succession within the space of DApps and open source projects.
“It makes sense that any company out there who has a cap table… should have their own token. Every open source project, every charity, potentially every fund or these new types of decentralized organizations [and] apps, they’re all going to have their own tokens,” the CEO said.
