What happens if you mash up pokemon, tamagotchi, the ethereum blockchain, a small developer team with a dream, a touch of nostalgia and a lot of dedication and hard work? You might have already guessed it, the answer is a project called: "aethia".

The world of Aethia, a peaceful world untouched for hundreds of years.

Until now...

On the Vishae-continent there have been sightings of mysterious eggs.

Legends and ancient artefacts have referenced to mysterious beings, called Ethergotchi, but these artefacts are mostly damaged pieces of meteorites.

From what already can be deciphered, they tell amazing stories about mythical creatures inhabiting other planets and building great civilizations.

Now,.. archaeologists have headed out to the area to check out the mysterious eggs that have been found by locals.

I still remember when I got my first tamagotchi when I was a kid, so you can imagine that my excitement was growing when finding out about aethia on twitter. The developer team was running a referral contest back then, giving away free eggs but there was little information provided about the game. That's when I made my decision to dig further into the matter and compile all the facts I could find.

Since then a lot of things have happened. The alpha version of the game is currently up and running and the auction house was launched recently. So far the developers are doing a great job of updating and rebalancing. New features and items are implemented constantly, listening to community feedback, which is great.

So what is aethia all about?

To give you a brief introduction: Aethia is a fantasy pet-raising and role-playing game running on the Ethereum blockchain. Ethergotchi are fantastic creatures that arrived on Aethia via a meteor. Little is known about these Ethergotchi but they seem incredibly diverse and are hatched from eggs. Our quest as researchers is to increase our knowledge of this wonderful creatures.

Most likely your career as an aspiring researcher will start during the egg phase of your ethergotchi. Once the game goes live, you will be able to obtain a free starter egg. Another option is to purchase a hatched 'gotchi from the auction house.
It takes six interactions until you ethergotchi will hatch. The options you choose will affect the development of your virtual pet throughout the game.

Once your egg is hatched your creature will evolve into the so-called child stage which takes approximately 30 days, followed by the adult phase.

A really cool feature of the game, which makes it stand out, is the reincarnation system. If you take good care of your 'gotchi and provide a happy and content life it will reincarnate like a phoenix out of ashes.

Ethergotchi are characterized by five different attributes:

• Strenght
• Dexterity
• Vitality
• Intelligence
• Charisma

This stats are affected by your interaction, meaning you are able to train specific stats by performing different interactions. So far there are seven different choices implemented, all with different effects, allowing you to create the 'gotchi of your dreams.

Performing interactions require a certain amount of happiness & energy. If these levels reach a certain value, your pet might run away or even die, so better take care of your ethergotchi. They also decrease with time.

Other features I want to quickly cover in this article are the auction house and mating. The recently introduced auction house allows you to sell and purchase ethergotchi at any stage of their life cycle. The system they are currently using works as following: You set a certain starting price which decreases over time to 0.01 ETH.

A way to discover new 'gotchi is the mating process. Once your pet reaches the adult stage it may mate with other 'gotchi resulting in a new egg. This action can be performed only once so you better make sure to find the right partner. To mate again it requires the 'gothi to live through a whole new lifecycle after reincarnation.

They are planning to introduce new content like battle arenas, contests and jobs in the future. In my opinion, aethia has great potential and I'm really looking forward to see how my ethergotchi will develop.
