Sony is launching a new cryptocurrency exchange subsidiary, S.BLOX Co., by revamping the acquired trading platform WhaleFin. WhaleFin, initially known as DeCurret, was acquired by Sony’s subsidiary Quetta Web Co. in 2023 after being bought by Singapore’s Amber Group in 2022. S.BLOX will feature a redesigned user interface and a new mobile app to enhance user experience, although its launch date remains unannounced.
Sony's engagement with blockchain technology extends beyond S.BLOX. The company’s division, Sony Network Communications, partnered with Startale Labs to develop a public blockchain network. Startale’s external director is set to lead the new crypto exchange.
Additionally, Sony has filed a patent for “super-fungible tokens,” indicating its intention to integrate NFTs into gaming. Sony's ventures into cryptocurrencies and Web3 highlight the growing mainstream acceptance and integration of digital assets and blockchain technology. Their participation underscores the potential of the cryptocurrency field and promises further innovation and adoption in the future.
