This could actually work well together with steemit - completely different network though. Very nice for showcasing your work - so far, minds is extremely political, but there's also lots of small businesses and artists on it.

"Coming very soon in the first quarter of 2018, we will extend our monetization system with crypto. The Minds Token will run on the distributed blockchain and will be immediately usable throughout the platform with Wire, Boost and our user reward system.
Our commitment is to deliver the best crypto-powered social network in the world, and we are on track to launch in 1Q 2018. Standby in the coming weeks for the release of our white paper which will disclose the full details on how it will all work, when it will launch, and how you can participate."

What kind of social network is it going to be? Some dating, hookup or something more substantial?

It's a fully-fledged social network rather more than steemit, with communities and all... just have a look.

Just signed up.....a bit scary, though :)
I will try it anyways. I hope there aren't any scammers wasting my time for nothing.

Excellent observation - a bit scary, at least compared to steemit ;))
You can block people and I would advise you to watch awhile and then do just that...

Thanks! I will do that.

I see it like a decentralized instagram

Although competition is what powers most ventures, in this instance it would be nice if these two networks could merge as steemit seems to have a good reward and application platform enabler and minds is clrearly a much better graphics and structured content site.

that's a good comparison - i think steemit was designed around the rewards system and also around the coin... while minds was designed as competition for facebook, as a more classical feel-good social network which insists on free speech where facebook censors.
So both minds and steemit attract fleeing youtubers, but for different reasons.
I don't see them as being in direct competition at all, but I also find it hard to imagine that they could work together in more than a superficial way.
