Cryptocurrencies for your IRA?

It's not that simple:

There are some products offered by Grayscale like GBTC that offer some exposure to Bitcoin that could be purchased in a self directed IRA.

The downside with buying something like that is the premium that currently exists in the product. 

As more and more alternatives come out to invest in cryptocurrencies, that premium is likely to dissipate.

Grayscale is coming out with another fund that will invest in the top 5 cryptocurrencies by market cap. 

That one might be the way to go for an IRA investment when it eventually comes out.
