Real life events can sometimes show how people will react to future technologies. For example, even if Facebook leaked so much data people use it because they have to. It has become too useful. Most of us would rather sacrifice safety for convenience. Zuckerberg knows this very well. Governments also know this very well. Any human with mitigated authority and dominance in a market - from priests to apple retailers - understand this dynamic perfectly.
Decentralization mitigates the trust to the individual, something that no average human is willing to do. The way our economy is constructed, it leaves very little time to concentrate to many things. Our entire system is based on specialization, aka do one thing and do it very good. Appeal to authority is still the strongest game in town whether that is an academic paper, a doctor's coat, a police officer's hat or a well groomed successful business man. There is no reason for the average human being to accept responsibility about something when someone else knows how to do the job better.
The average consumer will rather have many centralized entities antagonizing each other, thus resulting in an indirect decentralized free market. Extreme decentralization such as in the case of most blockchains does not work because most people can't be fucked. They don't care. Speed and convenience is much more important than trust and safety.
The most basic facet of human nature is to follow. To be sheep. This is why centralization will remain attractive unless something fundamental changes from our very own human nature.
There are new forms of blockchain technology attempting a balance between centralization and decentralization. Some day one may be able to position oneself where one wants to be regarding trust, safety, and other variables.
Crypto-secession is coming :-)
There will be a blockchain to suit every level of risk tolerance and every taste as to which regulations to live under.

I do agree that the solution is somewhere in the middle until these technologies become seamless and thus the end user won't be able to notice their participation.

Nice post. Pure decentralization is an illusion but there will be tradeoffs.. current society is too full of middlemens that suck the wealth to others to do basically nothing.. banks, insurances, certificators,.. and many money related activities will be completly changed by the blockchain(s)

I agree that people will seek confort above many other things. The catch is the bring forth decentralised change that is also a comfort enhancer for people. I call this the ergonomics of change.

i think that is how our minds have been trained to react, we can retarin the mind to be indipendent from the popular thinking and free our selves from the centralised system, we just need to show them the benefits of decentralization

One of the limiting factor to humanity is that we don't consider yielding to a change so important even if what we are working with is not producing results.
Once we are stick to something, we want to stay loyal to it, things don't always work like that, that is why you always see those that are ready to change with a change always be ahead of their game.
Decentralization is the present and the future! While centralization was the past.... Lol

For many this is true. Even for some who are awake. But not all. There are those who are awake who still value trust and safety. Sadly they are a minority. Thanks. @kyriacos

Even DPOS doesn't seem to be working as intended when it comes to proper decentralisation. Perhaps not so much because of sheep as because of sharks, but still. Nobody seems to care much though, so I suppose its underlying principles won't be revisited as long as it is convenient and fast, as you say.

You're ignoring any and all value of collective action with your last paragraph.
How many roads will be maintained through decentralization? Disaster response systems? Health care systems (even to the level of a large village)? What's the plan to home-school the billions of children?
The reason decentralization (REAL decentralization) WON'T work as a single paradigm of operation is it CAN'T work as the sole social model for the maximum benefit of more than a very limited number.
We need to recognize the problem with "human nature" ISN'T the desire to follow, or serve- it's the greed to exert power over others, and our laziness to oppose that to whatever extent we can.
You're correct in identifying this as innate, but that doesn't mean immutable. That same greed, if directed and modulated into benefit for those we wish to control, makes for the greatest teachers and benefactors. That same laziness that's so detrimental to freedom can translate into the drive for parsimony in thought that leads to great science, engineering, and artifice.

A sad but true fact i think - Most people want to be led . Want to absolve responsibility.
The true independent thinkers are then put in a position of chooing either attaining power, so ther independence isn't challenged - or being ostracized.
With power corrupting...

Blockchain allows apps to have many different layers of function than before. One of the key things holding it back is lack of interoperability and user friendly interface. Lack of knowledge how to use blockchain apps and currencies. The mainstream media does a terrible job educating people. Most people feel safe only in the crowd. Therefore, they only follow what the crowd is doing. Whatever crowd does they do whether it's right or wrong. What they are actually doing to themselves is accepting the status quo. They can never be better than the status quo b/c they are the status quo.

Rule by force has had its way with the gene pool long enough that it will take dedicated efforts to breed docility back out of us.
Until then brave new world has a real chance at breeding enough gammas and epsilons that the betas can be mostly dispensed with.
Betas are free enough and intelligent enough to conceive of freedoms not permitted to them.
Alphas have enough to lose to keep them in line.
If they hope to lock all this in, their time is growing short, the internet is letting in too much light.

Our society is set up in such a way that it doesn't give us much time to think critically for our own benefit. Decentralization comes with more responsibilties and people are constantly truing to reduce that. It is better to trust a 3rd party with your business affairs or daily transactions until even gets comfortable and no one starts monitoring them until they start acting maliciously to the point it is apparent. Ohh well, what a world to live in....
We are still evolving
