What is JoyStream?
JoyStream implements a version of the BitTorrent protocol where peers are rewarded with cryptocurrency for seeding, this allows user experiences which typically have not been feasible over peer to peer systems, like reliably accessing long tail content, and consuming high definition media in streaming mode.
Why we chose Bitcoin Cash?
We started working on this a long time ago, when payments on Bitcoin were much cheaper, and low value unconfirmed transactions were relatively safe. While we were building, things changed, and now payments on Bitcoin do not reliably satisfy these assumptions. Despite wonderful scaling technology on the way, like the Lightning Network, we did not wish to incur any further delay to allow users try the software with real funds, so we knew we had to transition to another coin.
One of the great things of the Bitcoin Cash community in particular, is that its filled with people passionate about finding interesting ways to actually spend their crypto, accessing goods and services which were previously not possible with incumbent systems. This, in combination with the fact that the community has committed to long term cheap on chain transaction, and 0-conf safety policy, makes JoyStream a perfect fit for this initial audience.
How you can help us
Want to make us successful on Bitcoin Cash? There are two extremely valuable things you can do:

Give it a try, and give us some feedback on Slack, Telegram or Reddit. We need help to make the software more stable, and easier to use. - Contribute to our Bitcoin Cash faucet
We are a small project with limited means, but we would like to make our first users to be able to try the application, even if they currently don't have Bitcoin Cash. This is why we will be giving users a limited amount of free Bitcoin Cash from our faucet when the software is installed.
