Streaming websites mining cryptocurrencies, using javascript miners by Coin-Hive

in crypto •  7 years ago

Is there anyone never watched webseries by using streaming websites? (My grandmother is able too).

This websites have a big crowd yet, many clicks and advertising so what could be the upgrade? Javascript Mining.
"I got many users, i take advantage from them using their CPU to mine Monero (XMR), a famous cryptocurrency".

If you don't know what "cryptocurrency" and "mining" mean, study! https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cryptocurrency

This plan have been discovered by an anonymous italian user that couldn't explain why he had 100% CPU usage only watching a vid. After many analyses using JavaScript Profiler, the result was that by loading webpage started a javascript miner related to Coin-Hive.

[Coinhive offers a JavaScript miner for the Monero Blockchain that you can embed in your website. Your users run the miner directly in their Browser and mine XMR for you in turn for an ad-free experience, in-game currency or whatever incentives you can come up with.]

This mainly happens because electricity cost to mine cryptocurrencies is really high (you need 10 notebook CPUs working 24hrs to generate 0.02 XMR) but lowers to 0 when you are using users devices, and they don't even know what's happening.

Personally i think that idea is really awesome, but people should know what is going on and what could happen if join these websites, expecially with low performance notebooks that could break up, overloading CPUs.

I hope this thread could help many users all over the world, stay tuned!
